Old highway 99 took us to Rainier, Washington this last weekend. It was an enjoyable drive which brought us through tranquil country scenery.

There is the saying that “Time and Tide wait for no Man”. The days of winter continue to rush by! It has been a particularly soggy season for the Long Beach peninsula. However, today we are experiencing some sunshine, which is most encouraging! Much has been happening in the last few months in the area of mission ministry with
New Tribes Mission. Currently in my Connection Center ministry I am working  with a number of people who have a desire to serve the Lord in missionary work. They 
hail from all over the USA with experience in executive positions, information and communication technologies, finance, nursing, and especially education.

We recently toured a historic site in eastern Washington. It is called the B Reactor which is sitting alone n a near desert like region. The building itself is somewhat non-descript from the outside but in the interior one begins to understand what this structure is all about and the monumental work that was accomplished in an incredibly short period of time. The Manhattan Project ushered in the atomic age, for better or for worse.

Pau is a Hawaiian word meaning finished or done. My mother Ellen Yunker was raised in Hawaii on the big island and during those years she learned to speak Hawaiian and Japanese. Last month mom fell suffering a broken shoulder and hip which resulted in her being transported to St. Peter’s hospital in Olympia where she spent the final week of her remarkable life. During her time in the hospital, we would give mom water and when her thirst was satisfied she would say, “Pau”. Her life on this earth is Pau but she has left behind a wonderful legacy. Much of the Northwest have been blessed with an early spring. Daffodils are blooming in profusion and the flowering plum tree situated near the house with the light pink petals has been a feast for one’s eyes. The handiwork of our Creator is on full display!

Last week we were grateful to receive news from the Mouk language group where we ministered in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The Mouk church has been involved in an outreach to another language group. The Mouk missionaries have been teaching the Creation to Christ lessons for several weeks. Lord willing we will soon hear of the birth of a church in another area of New Britain. Additionally, there is ongoing Bible teaching in the various Mouk villages. In one location, a new Creation to Christ series is starting up. In other locations, they are teaching through I Corinthians and Romans.

Greetings from Long Beach, Washington! Our arrival  was in late August in this coastal town in the very  southwest corner of the state. Our trip from Sanford to  the west went well. Enjoyable visits with family in Arizona and Washington. Nice to hold those grandkids!

Greetings from central Florida! Our pre-field orientation (PFO) finished one week ago and we are thankful for these precious individuals, who have committed to serving the Lord in support roles here in the USA, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and the Philippines. The ten days that we spent together were a blessing. The photo above shows our PFO group in front of the NTM office building.

Greetings from Sanford! Diann and I trust that you are doing well in the month of March!

This morning I drove my friend Dion to the Greyhound bus station in Orlando. Our conversation during the drive touched on different topics with one subject being the years that Diann and I spent serving in a jungle area of Papua New Guinea ministering to the Mouk people. One aspect of our ministry included the managing of a clinic where amongst other diseases that we treated were the countless cases of malaria and a few of those cases were cerebral malaria. As a matter of fact one of our first patients was a small girl unconscious and convulsing with cerebral malaria. The Lord gave wisdom and we saw our little patient fully recover. We thank the Lord for those years in PNG! Also, praise God that He continually gives guidance to his children.

A catastrophe is often God’s opportunity to pour out His grace. The staggering losses sustained by the people of the Philippines during the deadly destruction caused by Typhoon Haiyan are deeply disturbing from a human perspective.

In September and October we traveled from Florida to the northwest and back. We were thankful for the opportunity to visit with family and ministry partners. Our only regret was not being able to visit with all of our dear friends due to time constraints. After putting many thousands of miles on the Buick we returned to Sanford on October 18th. Prayers that were raised on our behalf during the trip out west were much appreciated!

At dusk last week I stepped out the door and looked east towards the Space Coast. From Sanford, which is located 50 miles to the west, the fiery exhaust of the Delta 4 rocket was clearly visible as the craft rose through the sky with its payload. The purpose of the mission was to put a communication satellite into orbit, which will provide a significant increase in communications capability for the US and her partners. That evening I saw the flame of the rocket only. I wouldn’t have known the source of the glow in the sky if not for a news report given in advance of the launch. It was helpful information.
