The Mental Battle

Where is Your Focus?

During my bout with cancer, my eyes bounced from place to place. First, I focused on the fear of the pathology results, then the pain of the surgery, then the treatment choices, and then the medical bills. My focus was on the worries.

One day I read Psalms 25:15. “My eyes are ever looking to the Lord for help-for He alone can rescue me.” God was telling me where to focus. I began to force my thoughts away from the worries and onto God. Hebrews 12:2 says “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” I slowly began to realize that putting my focus on the one who can make a difference, the one who IS in control, was the only way to live in peace. What a stress relief!

I want to encourage you today. Whether you are immersed in treatment, have the whole process before you, or are on the other side…don’t focus on the “what ifs”- focus on the “Who’s there.” God is the only way to experience peace. Perfect peace is possible.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Matthew 22:37 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

Romans 12:2 Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.

Psalm 94:19 Lord, when doubt fills my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer.

May God be your focus today!
