Dealing with the Diagnosis
God Can Be Trusted in the Dark
2 Samuel 22:29 Lord, you are my light! You make my darkness bright.
“It is stage two ovarian cancer.” These are not the words you want the doctor to tell you! Knowing you have cancer is a blow. The number they attach to it to tells you how advanced it is. It is not a welcome statement! Suddenly your whole world goes dark.
When you walk into a dark house, you quickly try to find the nearest light switch. You don’t want to stumble or fall over anything. In my struggles to make sense of it all, I decided to try to read the Bible, to try to hear any word from God. Maybe I could find one Bible verse that would be a light to my heart in a dark time. I found many in the book of Psalms. I wrote these verses in my journal and re-read them when I felt the dark closing in on me.
Are you in the dark today? I am hoping you will keep reading God’s word as it is the LAMP in the dark night. (Psalm 119:105)
Psalm 43:3 O Lord, send forth your light and your truth. Let them guide me.
Psalm 18:28 You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning, my God turns my darkness into light.
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?
Psalm 56: 3-4, 13 When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise. In God I trust, I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling that I may walk before God in the light of life.
Psalm 125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken.
Job 35:10 God my maker, gives songs in the night.
Psalm 87:1 O Lord, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you.
Keep the light on!
