Are you sleeping well?

sleeping_well1I don’t know about you, but I can usually keep the worrying under control during the day. But at night, my mind won’t shut off. There were many nights I didn’t sleep well. I tried to lay there and rest because everyone was telling me to rest so my body could heal. So, laying around was a day and night job. And, at times I had so much medication in me that I could not sleep.

On those sleepless nights, I began to strike up long conversations with God. He never sleeps and is always listening. (Psalm 121:4) I’d talk to him about my loved ones and about my aches and pains. I also shared with him my dreams and that I hoped to live long enough to fulfill them. Our oldest daughter was engaged during this time and I really wanted to be well and be there to enjoy their wedding day. Our youngest daughter was still in high school. I wanted to see her graduate and go on to college. I wanted to grow old with my husband. I had plans…

During these midnight talks with God, I would find myself beginning with requests and/or complaints, but I usually seemed to end with praise. As we talked, I began to realize all the ways He had blessed me. I learned a new level of thanksgiving. I learned to thank him for the little things I used to take for granted (like good health and energy for the day).

The next time you cannot sleep, God is there ready to listen. I know because He took my worry and gave me peace.

Shalom-Peace be with you.

Psalm 119:147-148 I have put my hope in your word. I rise before dawn and cry for help. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night that I may meditate on your promises.

Psalm 1:2 Thrill to God’s Word, chew on scripture day and night.

Psalm 42: 8 By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me- a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalm 121:3 He will not let your foot slip, he who watches over you will not slumber.
