Matthew 14.25-33 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him…they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately he spoke to them, saying, “Take heart, it is I. Have no fear.” And Peter answeredContinue reading July 2019
Dear Friends, Thanks so much for your prayers! I have another request to add to your list. I just found out that Mount Ulawun, the big volcano near our village in PNG is currently erupting!! The last time it did this was in 2001 just before Keri and I joined the team. We have heardContinue reading June 26, 2019
Dear Friends, Thanks so much for your prayers! I am thrilled to announce that the Mengen New Testament is in its final stages at long last!! Right now, it is at our mission headquarters where a couple of people will be working to get it typeset (making it look like a Bible!) Then it willContinue reading June 2019
Dear Friends, Greetings from Canada! Just about 12 days ago I started my rugged journey around the world. For my first 2 flights, I was able to travel with friends from Hoskins which was a special gift from the Lord! Nice to have someone to visit with for a long day of flying. We partedContinue reading Late April 2019
Dear Friends, There is so much to be grateful for these days! Mostly, thank you so much for your faithful prayers. Many have written over the last couple of days and said that they were praying faithfully for the translation check that my Mengen helpers were doing along with our mission translation consultants. “He whoContinue reading March 30, 2019
Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement these last couple of weeks. I have heard from dozens of people saying that they are praying for the Mengen translation check and all that it entails. Right now we are in our most difficult days. We have finished the books of John andContinue reading March 27, 2019
Dear Friends, What a week it has been! Last Tuesday I was in the middle of writing an update, when I got the news that we’d be flying out that day instead of waiting till the following day. Whew, I quickly had to pull my laundry off the line and pack my bags. Thankfully myContinue reading March 23, 2019
Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your prayers for me this week. The Lord has done amazing things. Baby Evelyn: As you may remember, I asked prayer for my main translation helper’s wife who was expecting a baby! With her last delivery she had severe complications, so we were quite concerned for her. Also,Continue reading Late March 2019
Dear Friends, It’s already March and my time here in Papua New Guinea is flying by! Last week my coworkers and I were able to spend some time in Lele. Because it is rainy season, it took a few attempts before the weather was clear enough for us to be able to land! Thank theContinue reading March 2019
Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your prayers for me. I have now been back in PNG for 1 week and 1 day! In many ways it feels so much longer than that! Each day has been extremely busy and I have barely had time to breathe!
Translation Update: Thanks so much for your prayers!! The Lord has done so much here already. After being here just a couple of days, Anton and Robert from Lele came out to help me. They have been such a blessing! They both read extremely well, so it’s nice to go through it all with noContinue reading February 2019
Dear Friends, In just a few days I’ll be returning to Papua New Guinea!! The goal of this trip is to finalize 4 books of the New Testament (Matthew, John, Hebrews and Revelation). It will take 4 weeks to work our way through 2657 verses. A mammoth and exhausting task. I will also be workingContinue reading January 2019
What a year it has been! The Lord has blessed and protected and gone before me every step of the way! I am so thankful that the King of Kings came from heaven as a baby and lived and died to save me from my sins. Hallelujah, what a Savior.
Dar Friends, Thanks so much for your prayers! I am happy to report that my visa for Papua New Guinea has arrived and my passport is back in my hands once again! What a relief!! The same day as my visa arrived, I was able to purchase tickets. I keep marvelling at the Lord’s provision.Continue reading November 2018
Dear Friends, Thanks so much for your prayers. Hard to believe that my busy summer is over and now we’re into October. Crazy how time flies. In the past few weeks, we have had 5+ snowfalls bringing us chilly temperature and definitely wintery conditions. Thankfully the snow has melted off each time and amazingly, aContinue reading October 2018
Dear Friends, Whew, the summer has flown by so quickly. The past few months have been exciting and busy. The definite highlight of the past month has been having my sister and her family here for 2 weeks! Such a precious time. I hadn’t seen them in almost 2 years and it was really special.Continue reading August 27, 2018
Dear Friends, What a week it has been. Last Monday I had surgery to remove my gallbladder, the first time I’ve ever been in the operating room. It has taken me a few days to recover and I still have to take it easy for another couple of weeks. So far there have been noContinue reading June 26, 2018
Dear Friends, Thanks so much for your prayers for me the past month. I am happily settled into my new home in Wetaskiwin, although I’m still doing battle with the weeds and bushes in my back yard!! It’s nice to finally unpack the boxes and bags that have been in storage for years! So manyContinue reading June 2018
Dear Friends, Happy Springtime! Here in Alberta, the days continue to be gray and snowy, with record-breaking wintery weather still. (I’m not the only one tired of it!!) Thankfully there is a promise of warmer weather by the end of this week…finally. I’m ready for greener days ahead!
Dear Friends, It’s been just 8 weeks since I left PNG, but it almost seems like another lifetime ago. Strange how living on the other side of the world will do that to you!! Instead of basking in the warm sun and admiring tropical flowers, I am enjoying a typical Alberta winter, with plenty ofContinue reading March 2018
What a month it has been!! Less than 4 weeks ago, I was finishing up a translation check in Hoskins and was planning for the final check of the Mengen New Testament the following month. I never would have dreamed how things would turn out in just a matter of weeks.
At the time of my translation check, I experienced a major flare-up of MS symptoms where I had pain in my eyes and numbness in the entire right side of my body. At the same time my vision was getting worse and for a couple of days I was nearly blind from pain and blurred vision. After giving it a week or so to see if my vision would recover, I realized that things were not going to improve quickly. It was a very difficult and heartbreaking day when I finally decided to postpone the final translation check for the Mengen New Testament and return to Canada for medical care.
Many years ago when I first started writing prayer letters, I remember trying to come up with a catchy name for mine. A lot of people use alliteration like “Preheim Pages” or something catchy like that, but I chose to go with the name “Guided by His Hand.” And that’s how it has been from day one, trusting the Lord every step and with every decision. He has truly guided me every day for 20+ years with New Tribes Mission and He will continue to do so in the days ahead.

Thanks so much for your prayers for me! I most certainly have needed them this week! After many trials and tribulations and answers to prayer, we were able to see another 7 books completed in the Mengen language! The translation check went fairly smoothly and I will have to work out some bumps still, but all in all, it was good. My next translation check is due to start in February.
Happy New Year….and what a year it has been! I’m very happy to say that 2017 ended on a high note for me, as I was able to finish the Mengen New Testament on Dec. 31. Whew!! All that remains is for the final books to be checked by our mission consultants, which is still a big task, but I can safely say that we’re looking at a very happy new year indeed!! To God be the glory!!
Merry Christmas from Papua New Guinea!
The past few months have been pretty intense for me in so many ways… and it seems like Christmas has taken a very different flavor for me, kind of a culmination of the events of the year. Many joys and many heartbreaks and many long hours pouring over a few New Testament books in particular. Here a few highlights, so you can see what I mean.
