Greetings from Steve and Sandy Aholt,

We hope that this past Father’s Day brought special memories to each of you as you remember the fatherly examples in your life.
Thank you for your faithful giving and prayers for us in our retirement years. These help us to stand before the LORD in these perilous times.
Tornadoes came near our house. The 80 mph winds damaged the nearly 100-year-old and largest tree in our yard, but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind, an earthquake/landslide in Papua New Guinea was within 250 miles to the west of where we lived. There are an estimated 600 to 2000 people who were buried alive in 32 feet of stony soil. Some of the stones are as large as a car, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake was a fire. I make it a habit to begin my day with reading the Bible and prayer before I do anything else on my daily schedule. Wednesday was different.
Sandy was working with our Kids Camp Monday to Wednesday mornings this week. There were nearly 700 kids who came each morning until noon. I got Sandy off by 7:30 and I went out in the cool of the day to mow the lawn. I had just started mowing a few minutes and the lawnmower engine stopped running. I restarted it and it died – three times repeatedly. The Holy Spirit reminded me that I was doing things out of order. I left the mower and went straight to the front porch and began to read the Bible and pray. As I got up from my knees, I looked over towards a car lot across the highway from our house. Smoke was wafting out from one of the bays. There was a car on fire! I called 911 and the firemen came within minutes to extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the building. If I had not listened to the Holy Spirit’s prompting the fire would have been much worse. Yes, when I went back to the lawnmower it started and ran without a problem ‐ but the LORD was not in the fire.
Like Elijah, in 1 Kings 19:11-13, when he heard the still small voice of the LORD, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out before the LORD, I also wrapped myself in the Word of God. Like Elijah, we are to be jealous and zealous for the LORD!
