Greetings all,
It has been a while since we have sent out a picture update. New and exciting things continue to happen in Wana! The latest is an outreach to a Muslim village in Wana at the village of “Bitter Leaf”. Backing up a bit – back in 1978 during our first survey to the Wana we spent our first night on the trail in this village. I was famished as all we had for lunch that day was plain white rice with salt. Needless to say that dry rice didn’t go down our dry throats very well.
That night we stopped in this village where they had cooked up a large pot of really nice-looking greens. I thought to myself, “I am going to enjoy this meal,” so I piled the greens high on my plate of white rice. Little did I know that they were the leaves of the papaya plant which are VERY VERY bitter. When I took that first bite I knew I was NOT going to be able to get them down, so when I “thought” no one was looking I stuffed the greens down through the split bamboo floor to the dogs that were waiting below. Well, the Wana people have never let me forget that fateful evening and tease me about that to this day. They have even nicknamed this village “Bitter Place” in honor of me 😊.
During our first years of ministry, some of the Wana people who didn’t want to study God’s word moved to this village to get far away from the teaching. Over time some Muslims moved in and converted them to Islam. Now, by God’s grace, some are starting to show an interest in the gospel and have invited us to come and teach them. Teaching started there just three weeks ago – there aren’t many but it is a start! Pray that these people would understand God’s word and be able to find the true path to eternal life……. “I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh to Father except by Me.”
God Bless,

This expresses the urgency of getting the gospel to these people. Just last week one of the villagers passed away into a Christless eternity. This pic shows a funeral meal in remembrance of the one who passed. Please be praying for these people.
