Dear family and friends,
Brad and I had a good trip up to Maryland the last two weeks of September. We were able to see two of Brad’s brothers and their wives. We spent most of our days with the parents and our evenings and nights at the home of friends just across the state border in West Virginia. Brad did some projects for his parents, and I did some cleaning, fixing meals, and helping wherever needed. During visits and phone calls, the Lord helped us come up with a plan to take care of the needs of the parents in their later years. It is hard to be so far away.
Our trip back to Florida on the Amtrak train was cancelled due to flooded train tracks somewhere along the line. We spent 2 nights in a hotel near the train station in Virginia. The train trips to Florida were cancelled on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The train pulled out of the station in Lorton on Monday with every seat filled. Sometime during the night the train hit some debris on the tracks which meant that repairs were needed for some brake lines. Then after we were on our way again, the train stopped for some inspectors to check out the completed repairs. With just over an hour until our arrival in Sanford, FL, we had to stop because our engineers had timed out and new staff traveled to our location and took over from there. We finally arrived back home on Tuesday afternoon. It is so good to be home!

My housekeeping team did a great job while I was away. After taking inventory of supplies and ordering what was needed, I was back on task with cleaning and meeting needs of our residents. Brad was not able to access the information on his computer that he needed to do his job while he was away. This means that he has been playing catch-up answering e-mails and attending to other responsibilities with his job.
Hurricane Helene missed us here in central Florida. There was a little bit of rain, but nothing really all that unusual for this time of year. Now we have Hurricane Milton headed our way. According to a local news station it looks like Milton is going to hit the west coast of Floridaas a category 3 hurricane. This means we may experience some high winds, localized flooding, and probably be under a tornado watch. Our maintenance team is doing hurricane preparations today and tomorrow before the storm hits us. Our Latham Center administrator will be away on a scheduled trip, so Angie our assistant administrator will be in charge. Plans are being made for some staff to be “camping out” inside of the Latham Center. This usually means cooks, nurse, housekeeper, and a maintenance person to attend to any emergencies that may come up. I have been asked to be one of those people. Our buildings here on the property are strong and have weathered many hurricanes in the past. We are not in a flood zone. We may lose electricity in the independent duplexes, but our Latham Center has a generator that keeps the lights and air conditioning on and life is pretty much normal for these folks.
Please pray:
- Brad as he catches up on the work he missed during our 2-week trip up north.
- Our maintenance team as they make preparations for Hurricane Milton.
- Our Latham Center staff as we meet the needs of our retired folks in the Assisted Living Facility.
- Our retirees in their duplexes as they stay put during the storm.
- That our folks will be resting in the Lord during the storm and its aftermath.
Living by grace,
Brad and Wanda Hull
Update: post Hurricane Milton

Dear family and friends,
Hurricane Milton has come and gone across the state of Florida. There is much cleanup to be done. There were many tornado watches resulting in tornados in the counties of central Florida. There was much destruction that is being documented and reported on TV. The Lord has spared us this time around. We had some strong winds and plenty of rain. (Seminole County got 13 inches of rain during the storm.) We lost electricity around 4:15 this morning. We were all thankful when the power came back on about an hour and a half later. Our grounds crew have been busy picking up lots of debris around the property. They are collecting it and loading up on trailers and hauling it off by the dump truck loads. Volunteers in our retirement community are raking up leaves and the smaller stuff.
In previous letters, I have asked for prayers for a quiet hurricane season. Some folks in Florida are still recovering from Hurricane Helene and now are having to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Hurricane season here in Florida lasts through the end of November. We are thankful to the Lord for His protection of us here at the Missionary Retirement Homes in Sanford, Florida. We so appreciate your prayers on our behalf.
GOD IS GOOD! This is the case no matter what He chooses to send our way.
With thankful hearts,
Brad and Wanda Hull
