Dear family and friends,

I will start with a fun photo. You will find an attached photo of part of my housekeeping team. Left to right – Veronica, Ema, me, and Lily. All 3 of the young ladies are from within our mission family. With their good attitudes, high energy level, and willingness to learn new skills, they are a huge blessing to me and our residents. Brad took the photo on St. Patrick’s Day. I supplied the green hats. We brought smiles to the faces of many of our Latham Center residents.

Last week there was an all-day meeting of the Evangelical Retirement Communities Network. NTM Homes hosted the meeting in our chapel. There were representatives from AIM (Africa Inland Mission Retirement Center) and SIM (Sudan Interior Mission). Maranatha Retirement Village (a Baptist Retirement Community) was not able to attend this time. It was great to interact with folks from the different facilities here in central Florida that are caring for their retired missionaries. I, Wanda had a 30 minute presentation as the Housekeeping Manager here at The Homes. The Housekeeping Purpose Statement: As we serve the Lord at NTM Homes, we desire to provide a clean and safe environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.

I shared an excerpt from Real Love for Real Life – The Art and Work of Caring by Andi Ashworth (second edition) Page 5.

Caregiving is a part of most people’s lives on some level. God appointed us to a caregiving lifestyle when he created us to love and to desire relationship. When we love others, we want to provide for them, show our love by caring for them as individuals. Caregiving touches many aspects of life- everything from the creation of a meal, to how we care for each other in sickness and old age, to the importance we give to celebrations and hospitality, to the way we live as a friend and neighbor. We sometimes seem to have forgotten that though society is constantly shifting and adapting to new ways, it will always be filled with human beings who need personal care and attention. Every person created in the image of God longs to be cared for in tangible ways, whether they realize it or not. Though our individual gifts differ, our desire to care, our ability to care, and our need to care exist because of one common truth: Our God is a caring God. We care because we were made in his Image.

A few days ago, I had my 6 week follow-up visit with the doctor who did my total knee replacement surgery. Dr. Reed said that I am doing great and am ahead of most people who get the surgery. He ordered 4 more weeks of physical therapy in order for me to get full use of my new knee. I am only working mornings which gives me time in the afternoon for the 1 ½ to 2 hours of physical therapy. I have been going out for PT twice a week but do PT exercises at home on the other days. I am not yet back to my full energy level and have to make allowances in my normal schedule. According to all that I have read, it could take several months for complete healing. We so appreciate your prayers as I go through the process. God is good! He is the Healer!

Our volunteer season is winding down. I counted only 5 RVs in the RV Court here on the property. I don’t have an exact count, but there were over 50 volunteers who came here to work during the winter months. They each are a blessing to our staff and residents. While they are here, there is lots of work that gets done. A few of the ladies helped in the Latham Center with deep cleaning jobs as well as some of the everyday tasks. There was also a crew of ladies who washed windows for residents living in independent duplexes. The guys worked in duplexes doing painting, putting down tile and laminate flooring, electrical and plumbing upgrades, drywall installation, etc. getting them ready for new retirees. A few days ago there was a load of sod that was delivered to the property. It took a crew of guys to put in down and then get it irrigated so that the grass will take hold. So much work has been accomplished and we are thankful. It keeps Brad busy in his office as he deals with the paperwork, transfers, and all the notices that come in the mail.

Please pray:

  • Wanda – as I juggle my job responsibilities with my recovery from surgery
  • Wanda – wisdom as I lead my housekeeping team
  • Brad – he seems to be low on energy these days – pray for increased energy
  • Brad – wisdom and accuracy as he works in his office

Because of His grace,

Brad & Wanda Hull
