Dear friends,

Thank you so much for your prayers for me these last couple of weeks. They have been difficult, challenging and emotional for me in so many ways.

Last week I went in with friends to their village to pack up their belongings. Words can’t express how difficult it was for them and also for me to witness. While we know the Lord has a special plan, it is pretty hard to see from this angle and each day was filled to the brim with grief and heartbreak. However, on the last morning we were in this tribe, I was woken by a song being played in a village house next door.

“Be still and know, that I am God. Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am God. I am the Lord that healeth thee.
I am the Lord that healeth thee. I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

This song was played over and over probably 50 times and it really struck truth into my heart. Although we don’t know what the Lord has planned, we know that we just have to be still and know that He is still God no matter what the circumstances are.

The boat ride back to Hoskins was definitely an experience I won’t soon forget! Thankfully I survived unscathed and I’m grateful that my back injury didn’t flare up!! My translation helpers Alex and Albert were already here waiting for me, so just a couple of days later we started into intense translation checking of four New Testament books.

The Lord enabled us to finish in record time. We will soon be printing 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians and Colossians into the Mengen language!! To God be the Glory!!
Thanks so much for your prayers for the Mengen New Testament translation. We are over 60% completed, but all the remaining books are in progress at the moment except for Hebrews and John!! Lord willing I will be able to have the next batch of books ready to be checked in the months to come.

This afternoon I got a very welcome phone call from our Mengen village. It was my friend Kariang who finally got a new phone and was calling to see how the translation check had gone. As you may remember, Kariang has been with me from the beginning, helping me to first learn the Mengen language and then to start into Bible translation. Today we were reminiscing about her kids and laughing at the memory of translating Scripture while bouncing babies on our knees. Out of 9 children, Kariang “raised” 8 of them in my office!!

Kariang’s oldest son Junior has been away from the Lord for a number of years, and recently just returned back to the fellowship with the believers. I asked her what had happened to prompt the change and she told me a funny story that I thought I’d share with you!

Kariang’s son Junior has been away at the coast finishing up his high school education for the last few years. A couple of months ago during exam time, the local witch doctor down in the area told him that if he paid him some money, then he could do the magic that would allow him to pass his exams!! Turns out that Junior failed nearly all of his exams in spite of the witch doctor’s “help.” Ironically it also proved to him the foolishness of the ancestral belief in magic etc, and so when Junior came home, he became involved in church again and is now walking with the Lord! Kariang and her husband are SO happy. Now they are praying for 2 more teenage sons, Paul and Freddy, that their hearts would be softened.

Thanks again for standing with me in this amazing ministry. I am so grateful for your support and prayers. May the Lord richly bless you.
