A little different update this time…….. Early in August our helicopter pilot took off from the capital city along with his daughter to fly a missionary family into a remote location. Destination was the Saluan tribe which is just to the east of the Wana tribe where we work.

He was flying over Wana land when he experienced hydraulic issues with the helicopter forcing him to make an emergency landing. Thankfully, he was able to set down in one of our Wana villages which was close by (see map below). He was able to make a good landing and everyone including the helicopter are safe and sound. They are now just waiting on parts to arrive from Europe.

They are hoping to get it repaired and back in the air sometime this week. This event reminded me how we need to be faithful to be praying for our helicopter and airplane pilots and mechanics. Safety is of UTMOST importance to them but even with all their careful inspections and faithfulness in keeping up on all preventative maintenance, sometimes things can still go wrong. They have quite a responsibility on their shoulders in carrying out the task of servicing all of us serving in the remote regions, and are an important part of the missionary team.
So they put a fence around it, and arranged for some Wana fellas to watch it day and night. It was then the long trip home and get parts on order. Hoping that the parts can be ordered this week.
It is not often we see our pilots traveling the “old fashion way”, – Our pilot and his daughter in the canoe and ready to start their trip back to the city. Hey at least it is a “twin engine” 😊. Thankfully the Kodiak will be able to fly them back in to do the repairs.
