Dear Family and Friends,

We are seeing the leaves turn to beautiful colors of yellow here in Bratislava, but not the brilliant colors of red that we experienced in Arkansas! Thankfully, however, the temperatures have continued to be quite mild. We’ll see how much longer that will last….

Grip Birkman Team Building refresher course in Prague

Since our last newsletter, I think we could say that our theme song could be ‘On the Rails Again!’ We have visited our teams in both Split, Croatia, Krakow, Poland, and Prague, Czech Republic. To be fair, we did take to the air as we traveled to Croatia from Vienna, Austria. Elise had the privilege of leading the team in Prague, which consists of one IMB couple and seven graduates from LSU, through a Grip Birkman Team Building refresher course. It was lots of fun and everyone did a great job contributing to a great time of learning!

The European Baptist Federation meetings were in Bratislava last month and the opening worship service was held at Palisady Baptist Church which is the church that we just joined last month! Our IMB European Affinity leader and the Nordic leader stayed with us and it was a great time to connect with Baptist leaders throughout Europe and reconnect with old friends from Croatia and Bosnia.

Ryan continues to do well at CBU and is on track to graduate in May of 2014! We are already looking forward to our trip to Southern California to participate in the festivities and to see the sights with our sons! We were able to meet his girlfriend, Summer, via Skype and have a few talks with her. It is no surprise why she caught Ryan’s eye and why they have been dating since March!

Bret is doing well at SWOSU and is loving his new coach, Bob Battisti! It looks like he will definitely get some playing time this Basketball season and we are all really excited about that! His games will be on live streaming video at the SWOSU website. Our bodies will need to get used to sleep deprivation since we will need to be getting up at 2 am at least twice a week to see his games!

Pray that Ryan and Bret will seek to make decisions that are honoring and pleasing to the Lord and ask for their protection in all areas of their lives.

Also, our annual day of prayer for European Peoples is October 20th which is dedicated to praying for Europeans around the world. Please consider these facts, mark your calendars, and set time aside on this day to pray for revival and awakening among Europeans.

  • Approximately 1% evangelical believers (99% lostness)
  • Unreached/Unengaged People Groups: 10 UUPGs over 100,000; 100 UUPGs over 25,000
  • 600 workers; 100 teams; 12M European evangelical believers
  • The European postmodern culture requires special strategies & methods
  • European students are searching for meaning & student work is growing
  • Emigrants continue to pour into Europe & are open to new ways of living
  • Special opportunities to reach Russians & UUPGs in Russia continue to be priorities
  • Eastern Europeans are going as M’s to difficult places, partnerships are possible

With our love and thanks,

Trey and Elise
