Dear family and friends,
Greetings from Central Europe where we are already experiencing a crispness and coolness in the air! We enjoyed a good month in July of local ministry and preparation for our annual meeting for our colleagues in Oberweisenthal, Germany. It was good to ‘stay put’ for a whole month, meet with national friends and co-workers, and be able to attend our local Baptist church regularly; this also helped us gain a better grasp on the Slovak language.
Thanks so much for your prayers for the preparation, travel, and implementation of our annual meeting in Germany. We are so thankful for the two churches that came from North Carolina to serve us through worship, preaching, providing children and youth programs for our families, and basically, spoiling us rotten! 🙂 The feedback we have received from our colleagues has been very positive and we thank YOU for the significant part you played in prayer.
Trey and Elise took a few days off after the meeting and traveled to Dresden where they enjoyed this beautiful German city and the Saxony Switzerland National Park that is located very close to Dresden. It was a much needed relaxing and restful time together.
Our sons have undergone much transition in the last month and we thank you for your prayers for them as well. We would ask you to continue praying for them as they make adjustments in their lives in their new living environments. Bret traveled to Marshall, TX and began classes at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) on Monday, August 25. The plan is for him to finish his last two years with a degree in English Education and, hopefully, have the opportunity to play lots of Basketball! Ryan and his lovely wife, Summer, have had a difficult, but good, start to life in China. It took them 3 days to travel to Dalian, China and then, the next day, they got on a bullet train to Beijing in order for Ryan to receive further ESL (English as a Second Language) training from August 25-31. Ryan will begin teaching at a University the day after he gets ‘home’ at and Summer begins her online classwork with CBU (California Baptist University) as well. We are convinced that they are following God’s leadership as they begin these new chapters in their lives and so thankful for His loving guidance and watch-care.
Please remember Trey and Elise as they seek to lead IMB personnel in their various roles and countries in Central Europe to fulfill the great commandment (Luke 10:27) and the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Specifically, ask for fruitful visits with teams and colleagues during the month of September.
We can never thank you enough for your investment in prayer, love and giving through various offerings (Lottie Moon, World Missions) to support our family in the life that God has called us to pursue. We so appreciate it!
In His Love,
Trey and Elise Atkins
