Good afternoon to all who are praying and for those who have supported the Adult Literacy Program at Promise Land, Papua New Guinea. I apologize for the lateness of this newsletter. Please continue to pray for Joyce the lead teacher and her 2 assistants Grace & Lydia.

Below you will find a message from Joyce, the Lead instructor for the program.

Speak Read Write Class Update
The classes began on February 3rd, 2025. There were twenty-five students enrolled. The number of days of school was 4 days for half a day of schooling, 8.00 am to 12.00pm. After two weeks of school, many students had to withdraw from attending classes. This was due to long distances of walking to get to school. The students walk for two to three hours to get to attend school. They live in very remote rural villages. They wake up as early as 5.00 am. to start walking .
The number of students attending class faithfully is 13 students. They have now completed the first term of schooling for 10 weeks.
The students have put all effort into their learning and have achieved a lot of positive outcomes of their learning.

These are the following outcomes achieved:

  1. Write alphabet A_Z.
  2. Upper case & lower case letters.
  3. Write and spell their first and second names in full.
  4. Can differentiate in writing words using upper and lower cases.
  5. Know the months of the year.
  6. Know the days of the week.
  7. The weather patterns.
  8. Know basic sight words.
  9. Construct simple sentences.
  10. Drill numbers 1_30.
  11. Write numbers 1_20.
  12. Memorised certain scriptures by heart.
  13. Phonics A_L initial sounds.
  14. Write Words for A_ L.
  15. Know how to say greetings using the correct words.

In summary

I am well pleased to say that students came to the Adult Literacy Evangelism class with very little or no knowledge of reading and writing. I rejoice greatly for their achievements so far. There are seven students in Level 1 and 6 students in Level 0 ..

Praises:

Students are learning and hearing God’s word. Joyce did not mention but each week as they learn the alphabet, they also learn a memory verse associated with the letter and a word for them to memorize. A for Adam, B for the Bible, etc.

Prayer Request

  • My Visa has now been registered so I continue to wait. The next step is for it to be approved which should occur by April 15. Once approved it will be sent to Washington DC.
  • I will then send my passport to DC for the Visa to be attached to the passport. Hopefully, this will occur quickly and my passport will be sent back to me.
  • If God allows, I ask for your prayers for a departure date in May.
  • Patience has never been one of my character traits, but God is definitely teaching me that this mission trip will be done on His time schedule, not mine. So, I am claiming Isaiah 40:31–“But those who wait on the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.”

Please continue praying for Joyce, Grace, Lydia, the students, and me.
Blessings to all who pray and support this ministry,

Sharon Douglas
