September 2024

Dear family and friends,

I would like to introduce you to one of our Latham Center residents. Rosalie was born in Maine and is one of 11 children in her family. Rosalie had a photographic memory and got excellent grades in school. Her school career ended when she graduated from the 8th grade.  Rosalie left home and worked for room and board. After hearing Billy Graham on her car radio, Rosalie “decided to try and reform.” One of her brothers was electrocuted at work, but survived. Rosalie was impressed with his changed life and his testimony of Christ as his Savior. She found a good Baptist church and talked with the pastor and got saved! Her life changed dramatically.  She began praying for God to open a door to serve Him full-time. In 1964 Rosalie began missionary training with New Tribes Mission. She thoroughly enjoyed literacy classes and her team even won a prize for the best literacy primer.

After completing the missionary training, Rosalie went by ship to Papua New Guinea. Between 1967 and 1979 she lived in 8 different tribal villages all within the same language group.  Her house was a little jungle hut. She taught many literacy schools and shared the gospel with each of her students. Many trusted Christ. Rosalie says that she has always been fiercely independent. That is no surprise to those of us who know her well.  She would travel all over PNG with a Christian brother. She purchased a megaphone to carry around with her in the vehicle.  On one of their trips, they saw 5 men lined up across a bridge. She grabbed her megaphone and blew her train whistle imitation and it was LOUD! Those men dove off the bridge as Rosalie and Josia sped straight ahead. They were shaken, but as they started to climb the mountain, they kept thanking God for His protection.

While in PNG Rosalie worked with 38 languages helping the missionaries to develop literacy programs for the people groups that they worked with.  In 1992 Rosalie relocated to Sanford, Florida. She traveled to many countries in Africa, Asia, and South America as a literacy consultant within our mission.  One of Rosalie’s life’s challenging verses is 1 Corinthians 15:58. “Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.“ I have included a photo of Rosalie taken during morning coffee break in the Latham Center. We often see Rosalie (now age 89)  rapidly going with her walker / rollator here and there inside of the Latham Center. We sometimes hear her train whistle as she makes her rounds inside the building.  I find it a joy to be part of a team here at the retirement homes to help meet her needs.

Brad and I are planning a trip up to Maryland the last 2 weeks of this month.  Please pray for traveling mercies as we go by auto train from Sanford, Florida to Lorton, Virginia. This will be our first time on a train in the USA. It leaves the station here at 5:00 in the evening and arrives at 10:00 the next morning with just one stop along the way. Once we collect our car from the train, it is just a 2 hour drive to our destination in Hancock, Maryland. One of the purposes of our trip is to assist Brad’s parents with different tasks as we are able. Please pray that our time in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania will be profitable in the light of eternity.

Of course after we return to Florida (also by train), we will have to play catchup with our work responsibilities. Please pray for physical strength as we are both feeling older these days. Please pray that we will make the best use of our time and energy as we go about our daily jobs.  We are so very thankful for each and every day that the Lord gives us to serve Him as we minister here in Central Florida. We are also thankful for YOU! We SO appreciate your interest in our ministry. The cards, letters, e-mails, text messages, financial gifts, and prayers on our behalf all mean a lot to us. May the Lord bless you!

By His grace,

Brad & Wanda Hull
