7th week of teaching at Koropa

Heti contacted me on Monday and said that someone killed his pig and the court was to be on Wednesday so he wouldn’t be able to go up with me this week. Satan has many ways to try and stop things in the village situation but he can only do what God allows him to do. It looks like Heti is getting up there every second week on average.

As usual the village was deserted when I got there but they all came after sunset so it was another lesson by lamplight. I taught the lesson on God asking Abraham to leave his home and family and go where He would show him. Terah’s story and Abraham’s story overlap in the Old Testament so the story doesn’t follow along chronologically. With a little adjustment here and there I was able to help them see how it happened.

Next morning’s lesson was an important one. “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” This is a difficult concept for them to grasp. It wasn’t because he was a good man but because he believed God. I’m not sure that they have really grasped that yet. Caleb from across the river came after the lesson and approached me about getting some pictures so that he could teach his family the lessons. I told him that just as children have to go through all the grades in order to gain the knowledge they need so he would need to come to all the lessons to get a good grasp of God’s word before he could teach his family. He needs more than just pictures. I asked him if he can read and he said that not many of his people can read. So that is a need that needs to be addressed in the future.

That night I was putting out the chart and the pictures when I looked up and realized that it was going to rain so I started taking them off again. We just got them into the house when the storm hit with strong winds and heavy rain. So we had the lesson in the house. Next morning it looked like it was going to clear so we put out all the pictures and chart. But we had a sudden shower and they got wet so I just left them there and by the end of the lesson they were all dry. The pictures are laminated so it didn’t hurt them. I taught the lesson on Abraham (almost) offering Isaac. This is an important lesson too as it introduces the concept of substitutionary sacrifice. Nupae (picture at right) showed more interest in the lessons this week so pray for him.
