Wonderful Weekend
Praise God for His Faithfulness
Cedine Ministries Spring City, Tennessee
As some of you might know, we have been based in Greer, SC for five years now. We haven’t been able to travel out-of-state very often, but the trip I’m going to tell you about was an exception.
In 1966 and 1968, we worked at a summer camp program called Cedine Bible Camp. We had the summer off from New Tribes Bible Institute and volunteered to be camp counselors. I had to address Kathy as “Miss Kathy” and she addressed me as “Brother Jim.” We were engaged but terms of endearment were not allowed.
Kathy worked in the girls’ village and I in the boys. One new group of campers arrived each week, mainly black children who had earned their week at camp by memorizing Bible verses. Many came to Christ at the camp.
In July, we borrowed a staff member’s car and drove to Greenville, SC to get married. Upon our return, we worked in the camp kitchen for the rest of the summer. In 1968, we were between semesters of our mission training and served there a second summer.
We received notice that the camp was celebrating its 80th Anniversary, and we volunteered to help out in the kitchen preparing food for about 400 people.
The sermon preached on that day was powerful and appreciated.
Duck Creek Baptist Church
Sneedville, Tennessee
The next morning, we left early headed for Sneedville, TN to attend a long-supporting church, Duck Creek Baptist Church. When we arrived, the pastor asked me to speak in the morning service, and the people were attentive. They blessed us with a love offering, and we headed home in the early afternoon.
It was a beautiful drive in parts of Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and we arrived safely home with hearts full of praise for all the blessings during that weekend.
Lord willing, we plan on a longer trip in October-November to visit ministry partners in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Thank you for your love, prayers and support through years.
Love in Christ,
Jim and Kathy Tanner
