What Does God Think of You?
Dear friends,
Recently I was challenged by an article I read to consider how we imagine that God thinks of us. Do we see him as generally displeased with us and disappointed with our performance, or do we see him as he is, “a God who loves us deeply even when we are at our worst, a God who has only love for us and no regrets?”
I admit that I can easily become focused on my own shortcomings, sins, and frailty, and quietly assume that God is similarly displeased. If you asked me, I would probably not articulate it that way, but it is sometimes a subconscious thought that subtly drives me away from fellowship with God, rather than toward him. Sounds like an effective strategy of the enemy of our souls, does it not?
May I challenge you today to consider both the Greatness and the Goodness of God, whose mercies are new every morning, and in doing so may it draw your heart afresh to the One who created You, loves You, and gave his Only Son for your salvation so that you could enjoy fellowship with him both now and throughout eternity!
New Semester is Underway
We would appreciate your prayers as the new semester is underway here at Texas A&M and at schools around the state. There are so many opportunities that it is hard to know when to say “No” to some of them because we can’t be everywhere and do everything. (Texas is a big state!) Pray that we will have wisdom in this.
This semester, trips are planned to Washington (state), Louisville, and Lynchburg. (OK, full disclosure: that last one is not a ministry trip, but Cara and Braden are finishing up their degrees at Liberty University, and we are excited to help move them back down here to God’s country!) In addition, Neil plans to attend missions conferences at Baylor, ETBU (Marshall), Houston, and here in College Station. There may be one or two more he adds to that list if he thinks he has the bandwidth.
Also, Neil is coordinating the local Perspectives class in the Spring, but there’s a lot to do now to prepare for it. In addition to that, he is coaching and discipling several individuals interested in missions and leading our Ethnos360 USA Rep Team.
Real-Time Prayer Updates
We mentioned in our last update a concern we had about our current e-letter service getting overly SPAM filtered. Ironically, after we sent that message, the resulting engagement was one of the highest ever leading me to believe that my fears were unfounded(?). However, we would still like to have an avenue to send out short, “up-to-date” prayer requests as things are happening in “real-time.”
As we have said many times in the past, prayer must be an integral part of all missions ministry. Dick Eastman said, “I am convinced that when we stand before God…we will discover that every soul ever brought to a knowledge of Christ was in some way related to intercessory prayer.” Our current mobilization ministry is to raise up laborers for the Harvest, and prayer must be the foundation of that ministry as well. Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matt 9:37-38).
So, if you are interested in being a part of concerted prayer to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up laborers, I have set up a Telegram group that you can join. (Yes, if you don’t have Telegram then you’ll have to download an app for this, sorry.) To join, use this link here. It’s an experiment, so we will see how it works. Thanks in advance to those of you who are willing to pray with us as we walk into various opportunities to see God raise up laborers for the harvest!
We appreciate all of you standing with us in your prayers, giving, and encouragement.
With gratitude,
Neil and Becky Burleson
