I can’t believe IBC’s summer is half over already! The time is flying by! Last week was significant: Monday was the five-year mark of our tenure at IBC and Friday we celebrated my 40th birthday. I started in youth ministry before I was 20; if the Lord gives me the opportunity to do vital ministry until I am 80 then my “ministry years” are only 1/3 gone (20 adult years out of 60)! 🙂 I am praying that this next third (i.e. the next 20 years) will be even more fruitful than the last third.
I spent the last six weeks on sabbatical and it was very helpful. I had a lot of time with my family, touched base with a couple of California supporters, visited three reservations I hadn’t been to yet, and got a lot of work done on my back yard (moving us towards our goal of being able to host the summer work teams for a BBQ at our house). The highlight was a couple of days at the beach (in Eureka, California) for a prayer retreat right before a reunion with the Koppen clan (my parents, siblings, their spouses and kids) at Lake Shasta.
Three of our six summer work teams have come and gone. The landscaping between the buildings was completely redone and it looks great, our very first IT server was installed, the entire upstairs of the academic building was re-carpeted, and a shed to cover the school’s motor-home was built across the street. We have taken possession of our newly rented office space and the move is in process. The plan is to move my office up there in two weeks. Hopefully internet will be installed by then!
We have two new staff arriving this summer. Academic Dean (Kevin) arrived with his family in mid-June and is now back east raising support. They return later this month and we will then be working feverishly to get him going before the school year. Our new librarian (Barbara; committed to full-time service for two years) arrives later this month.
I have a few prayer requests for you:
- Pray for 15 new students and that we will have a packed campus again this year. Pray for at least 5 new men that want to be pastors!
- Pray for Kevin that his support-raising go well and that he would quickly become a high-functioning member of the IBC team.
- Pray for wisdom for me as I attempt to turn over the Academic Dean responsibilities to Kevin and transition to being a fully-functioning college President.
Thank you to all of you that pray for and give to the ministry of IBC! You are a valuable part of the team!
Your friend and servant,
