Greetings in Christ and Happy New Year!
I hope that you had a great time with your family and friends over the holidays; Sarah, the kids, and I had some very meaningful family time. Thanks for your prayers for a restful break.
We’ve been back in the office for two weeks now (since January 4th). We’ve had four block classes, three of them taught by out-of-town instructors. Last week I spent three days at events for Native ministry leaders and this week I have been teaching my Human Relationships class to our two new full-time freshmen students in a block-course format.
Why spend 12 hours teaching just two students? Is that a good use of the President’s time?
The Human Relationships class covers love, servanthood, communication, conflict, humility, compassion, forgiveness and reconciliation, etc.; this content is essential to building a healthy campus community. At IBC we are passionate to teach and model godly relationships; beginning a new student’s journey at IBC with this content helps set their expectations. It also helps hold me accountable to lead the school in a godly way! The two students this week demonstrate the importance of this class: a 60-year-old Ojibwe lady who recently decided that politics couldn’t save her people (and that only Jesus can) and a 20-year Zuni Pueblo man who has incredible charisma and kindness. Both of these students have incredible potential to impact their people and the world. It was not easy to take this amount of time for them, but it was well worth it to have such a deep impact upon them and the beginning of their time here at IBC. Regular classes begin Monday the 18th; please pray for these two new full-time students, the returning students, and the many new part-time students that are signing up.
This weekend (Friday and Saturday) is the winter meeting of the IBC board. I am looking forward to meeting with my boss! Please pray for our time together, and particularly for the two new board members attending their first meeting.
Thank you for standing with us in prayer and financial support!
