Back to the Asia Pacific!!

Greetings Team,

This morning has had us scrambling to get last-minute forms & letters filled out and signed in preparation for applying for a visa to go to the Asia Pacific. We thought we had most of the forms uploaded last week but our field chairman advised me otherwise this morning :-). It is hard to believe all the forms, photocopies, pictures, and letters we need to have just to apply for a visa during these covid days!

Yes, we are making plans to return to the Asia Pacific in mid-March. And yes, there are still a lot of protocols in place, but after discussing this as a leadership team we feel that after not being able to travel for such a long time that it is really important to try and make this happen if at all possible. One of the big protocols in place is Covid test upon arrival, followed by a 7-day quarantine at a government-approved hotel, followed up by another covid test at the end of the quarantine. We don’t even want to think about what happens if one of us should test positive!

Who are the “we” – well, this trip I am planning to take our kids, Geoff and Tina, over with me. The Wana tribal people are really looking forward to this time. As you know Geoff was raised in Wana so they are looking forward to seeing him again and meeting his wife for the very first time. During our time there we have a big church-wide Bible Conference scheduled. We plan to arrive a few days early to give us all some informal time with our friends before the conference begins. We also have planned some consultant visits with Wana missionaries serving in other language groups.

Some prayer requests:

  • Pray for the visa application process to go smoothly.
  • Pray that we will all test negative for Covid all along the way.
  • Pray for a good time during the Wana Bible conference and the consultant visits to other missionary teams that we have planned.
Pray for the finances this trip will entail. It will be more expensive this time with the three of us, and also the added hotel expenses for quarantine.

Why do we do what we are doing? Well, the pictures below explain it all. This is a new group of over 100 Wana who are asking to be taught the gospel. When we did our first survey in the Wana tribe back in 1978 we had folks from this group who were our guides. They already had another church group working with them so were not open to our teaching. However, they were always using the national language which was hard for them to understand thus not being able to understand the gospel. Now they are asking if we would be willing to teach them in their own “mother tongue” – the answer is “yes” we would love to do that! And with that, the gospel is coming full circle in Wana! Please be praying as that outreach is just now beginning.

Btw….these people purchase clothing down at the coast. Many times what is written on the clothing is in English but doesn’t make sense. They buy for the color!

Waiting to hear the gospel in their own language!

God Bless,
