Change of Pace
Greetings from College Station! Trust you all are doing well and finding joy in the grace of our Lord Jesus. Summertime is an interesting time in A&M land. Most churches and ministries take a bit of a “siesta” until the Fall semester starts in August. This has meant a bit of a change of pace for us as well. We’ve had opportunities to take part in other avenues of ministry during these months and also enjoy some downtime as a family. Read on for the details!
The ministry highlight of the summer has been the Interface course that Neil was able to take part in during the month of June. Normally, we run Interface as a college-level missions course in Papua New Guinea for six weeks. Due to COVID this year, we had to keep it stateside and shorten it to 2 weeks. Although this was a bummer not to be able to take the crew overseas, we still had a great time with 14 eager students, most of whom expressed a desire to serve the Lord as missionaries and many of those with Ethnos360.
It was rewarding to be able to spend time both in a classroom setting and in small groups as well. Please pray for these 14 students that they will follow God’s leading wherever that may be. Pray also that the door will open so that we can run next year’s course in Papua New Guinea once again!
We mentioned last letter about our coaching ministry with the Perspectives Next Steps Network. The first step for us in doing that was attending coaching training at our Ethnos360 headquarters in Sanford, FL. Now that we are “trained coaches,” we have 3 Perspectives alumni we are coaching from the latest class. As with the Interface students, please pray that God would challenge these three individuals to find the Great Commission “fit” He has for them!
While we were in Florida, we enjoyed reconnecting with several of our former PNG coworkers and great friends. It was also encouraging to visit the new Ethnos360 headquarters building. On the first floor is a remarkable display of Scriptures translated by our missionaries over the years in many languages from around the world (picture below left).
We’ve also taken the opportunity this summer to connect with some of the churches in Texas who partner with the mission through their support of our Ethnos360 missionaries around the world. This involves anything from sharing with Sunday schools or VBS groups to occasionally filling the pulpit on a Sunday. If any of you in Texas would be interested in having us reach out to explore opportunities with your church, let us know!
On a personal note, we were blessed through the kindness of some good friends to have the opportunity to spend a week as a family up in Estes Park, CO and Rocky Mountain National Park. Although we were bummed that Ben and DakotaKate were unable to join us, it was still great to have most of us together and enjoy the Lord’s creation in such an amazing place.
Thank you for being part of our team, mobilizing Christians to go to the unreached peoples of the world! We are so grateful for you all.
Love in Christ,
Neil and Becky Burleson
