Waiting, waiting, waiting!

We had purchased airplane tickets to return to Papua New Guinea on July 17, but because of increased Covid restrictions in PNG, we had to seek approval papers from officials in the capital city. The consent didn’t arrive in time so our mission recommended we cancel our tickets and wait for the approval process to take place. Since then, we have been eagerly waiting for news from PNG so we can re-purchase tickets.

The good news is that while we are waiting to return to PNG we can continue working on New Testament translation and other projects for our Hewa friends. The not-so-good news is that we don’t know how long we will be waiting so we don’t know if we need to rent a house here in South Carolina to stay near Susan’s parents. If it appears we will be delayed for a long time we will need to decide how to start Mikenna in 8th grade classes here rather than in PNG, and this will be very disappointing for Mikenna. Please pray that doors will be opened for us to return to PNG very soon.

Another bit of good news is that our pilot friend, Ryan Farran, has made a short video of the progress our two Christian school teachers have been making in our village while we have been in the USA (he is the same pilot who helped purchase a photocopy machine for the school). We were glad to see how the village built another temporary dirt-floored leaf-roofed classroom in order to accommodate the students. (Because of a few generous gifts that have arrived we hope to build permanent classrooms in the future). We are amazed at the amount of work that went into the hand-hewn plank siding and desks.
