Thank you so much for your love, prayers and gifts! We are deeply grateful for your part in reaching the Hewa tribal people with the love of Jesus. Thank you!
We were able to talk with our Christian School teacher this week! Our co-worker, Keith, arranged for us to speak on the phone with our school teacher, Gabriel, when he went out to town for his break between school semesters. He is doing well and is energized to return to Hewa this month for the next semester. He is very excited about the progress of the 50+ students he has been teaching, and equally encouraged by almost that many more who want to enroll in this spring semester. He says it is time for us to hire a second teacher!
The grateful Hewa tribe gave Gabriel a pig feast. Before Gabriel left Hewa for his Christmas break, the community leaders and children donated 15 pigs to hold a celebration to honor Gabriel. They thanked him for being their first school teacher, and told him they want him to continue teaching on and on in Hewa until he is an old man. We were very pleased to hear the village honored him in this way.
The Lord has provided a brand new photocopy machine for the school! One of the New Tribes Mission pilots, Ryan, who regularly flies into Hewa, conducted a fundraiser that has already paid for a copier, as well as an inverter, so it can operate on the solar system we set up before we left. When we told Gabriel about the copier on the phone, he was very grateful and can’t wait to put it to use this coming semester.
We are searching for a second school teacher. After speaking with Gabriel we were able to talk with Pastor Joel, the same pastor near Goroka who helped us hire Gabriel, and he informed us he has already started the process of interviewing a few potential candidates. He assured us he will make sure to find just the right Godly man for this important role. He desires that the new teacher share Gabriel’s passion for academics, and also has a strong desire to invest in the hearts of the tribal kids. We can’t wait to see what God does next.
Don’t forget to check out the new videos about what God has been doing in Hewa!
Thank you for your love and prayers,
Jonathan, Susan & Mikenna
