Dear Friends,

Well, this weekend was the date we were hoping to fly to Papua New Guinea for the Mengen Bible dedication. However, a few months ago, things began to change. Of course, there have been a lot of complications because of the coronavirus and the travel ban etc. However, we are also seeing some of the challenges come from our village and the Mengen church.

Becky with the New Testament translated into the Mengen language, a project that took 15 years to complete!

At the moment, the Mengen church is going through a difficult season of growth right and need our prayers. One former church leader has turned into an enemy of the gospel and is sowing division and discord. Others are falling into sin or just plain old apathy and unfaithfulness. Yes, the struggles are many, but we serve a faithful God who continues to work in all of our lives! This is such a great time for the Lord to show His grace and continue to accomplish His work in His own timing.

At the moment, the Flanagans are back in Lele village after a ‘forced’ absence due to travel bans because of COVID. Please pray for Simon and Annika Flanagan and also for the Lauretis as they disciple the Mengen believers, encourage the church and make decisions about the ministry. Pray too that the Lord would bring a revival to the Mengen. I am so thankful that the Lord knows and that He is not unaware of the needs of the Mengen people.

At the moment, the brand-new Mengen New Testament is sitting in boxes at Hoskins and we are giving it some time to see where the church is going in the days ahead.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3: 22-26

As for me, I am doing great and feeling really good. I have just finished nearly 6 months of work at the Literacy Center and have enjoyed it tremendously. I have made some really special friends and have learned a lot during this time. It has been a very interesting few months and we had to get creative because of COVID and long-distance learning, but it all turned out well in the end. Tomorrow is the end of the regular term!

Because I was just filling in for someone on maternity leave, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to return in the Fall. Thankfully, I have a part-time job for the summer, taking care of a girl with special needs. I worked with her last summer also, so this will be fun! We’ll see what the Lord has for me in the months ahead. At the moment, I am working on renovating my basement, so there is still plenty for me to do!!

Isn’t God faithful?!! He has been so very good to me!

With joy,

Becky Preheim
