New Churches in Slovakia

Thank the Lord with IMB colleagues in Bratislava, Slovakia for the many opportunities 2018 has brought for ministry and networking with Slovaks and GCC (Great Commission Christian) partners. There are three churches beginning new church plants in the coming few months and several others considering it within the next year! Pray specifically for Slovak and GCC leaders as they continue to seek God’s clear vision, guidance, and leadership in extending God’s Kingdom through planting new churches throughout Slovakia. Ask that there would be a spirit of unity, cooperation, encouragement and love amongst them and pray for us as well schedule follow up visits and travel to these leaders and churches.

We live in an apartment complex that has lots of young families and there seems to be a fairly nice community atmosphere, just like the snowman community pictured above. Of course, we are the ‘strange Americans’ and most of our neighbors tend to keep their distance from us! There are those, however, who are not intimidated and talk to us. We are seeking to reach out and invite our neighbors and other contacts into our home for a meal and/or coffee and dessert as often as possible. Pray that people will be receptive to our invitation and God would open doors for spiritual conversations. Also, pray for wisdom as we consider who to invite and what day of the week to begin a Bible study in our home.

Please pray for Riso (Richard) and Tanicka, a young Slovak couple who are beginning a new church in the town of Revuca. (Please click on the picture above to find a link in which Riso shares his vision and strategy.) Riso is an intern at the Baptist Church in Banská Bystrica (100 km away from Revúca) and he and Tanicka plan to move to Revúca in June. The other 6 members of the church planting team will move to Revúca in June-July and they plan on having their first youth camp in August with a view toward a launch of the church plant in September of 2019. Pray for wisdom, grace and peace as team members transition into these new roles. Ask that their sending church of Banska Bystrica and the Baptist Union would know how best to support them in this exciting endeavor.
