Dear friends and family,
Pictured above is our first worship service at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Thanks so much for your prayers for us and our family. It means so much to know that you are praying, and God is faithfully answering your prayers!
We have made the jump across the pond and are starting to feel settled in Shreveport, LA after only 10 days. Broadmoor Baptist Church has exceeded our expectations in providing a lovely house for us (complete with free utilities and wifi!), being warmly received in Sunday School and the Worship service, providing breakfast our first morning, giving us a gift card to the nearest grocery store, AND Elise got treated to lunch with 3 of the ladies from church! We are so looking forward to being a part of this thriving Body of Christ!
George and Yvonne Atkins, Trey’s dad and mom, with Bret after a game last season. We are spending this week in Weatherford and Oklahoma City because Trey’s Dad begins chemotherapy Monday, November 9th. George was diagnosed 6 weeks ago with stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his brain. Trey and Elise were supposed to be in Virginia for a mandatory conference, but their employer, the International Mission Board, has allowed them to postpone attendance, and we are so thankful we can be in Oklahoma to support Trey’s parents in these stressful days. Please pray for God’s healing touch on George’s life and that all of us would rely heavily on the Lord through this difficult time.
Bret and Dana are engaged! We will have a new daughter-in-love as of June 10, 2016, and we are thrilled! We look forward to spending lots of time with Bret and Dana in the months leading up to the big day as we are within 45 minutes of Bret in Marshall, TX and an hour and 10 minutes from Dana in Longview, TX. Dana graduated from ETBU last May and is in her first year of teaching English at Gilmer High School in Gilmer, TX. Bret’s first Basketball game is Saturday, November 14th in Memphis, Tennessee. We are excited to see this game in person – it is our first time to be there and watch him play college ball! Go ETBU Tigers!
Summer, Ryan and Bret meeting in Las Vegas this past August. Ryan and Summer have settled back into life in Dalian, China with a much smoother landing this time around. Summer is enjoying teaching English to preschoolers and Ryan has begun a pilot program of reading clubs for children from age 6 – 12. There are about 70 students enrolled in these clubs and it is keeping Ryan hopping! Thanks so much for your prayers for them; ask that God would continue to use them in a mighty way as they minister to the students, their parents, and others they meet in their day-to-day lives.
